After 7 years we are giving Iceweasel-UXP its final callout for a "Goodbye". Within our testing-repositories the package is already removed and so it will also be no longer part in the next upcoming version 0.4.5. We are very thankful for this fine webbrowser created as hard fork from original Basilisk and done from our founding member Luke (Gaming4JC). Time goes by nevertheless and we have no further maintainer for Iceweasel-UXP, so we are sending it with many thankful wishes to the deserved rest.
Thank you for being a companion on the web for such a long period of time, Iceweasel-UXP. And thanks for its creation and further maintenance. It is now time for a rest towards this package. If people are interested to take over, surely get in touch with us.
We want to add also here that the on-going process to add more and more dependencies towards JavaScript-based implementations is to be seen very critical and also dangerous. The world wide web was created as foremost barrier free place to get people into touch and direct, free transfer of information. This is for a long period of time not longer possible: Crawler bots and more have ruined the idea of exchanging information without barriers as every action will cause also a reaction. So the reaction of administrators for websites and further services was and is to react with even more JavaScript-implementation to stop the immense outgrowing data traffic caused from the mentioned crawler bots. Is this the fitting reaction? Surely not. But was the intense usage of those bots also correct as they are acting without any question. Who is behind them? Many acting persons and companies. They act without any permission, without asking for their own advantage crawling data and information, causing much damage and making it impossible for smaller webbrowsers like our Iceweasel-UXP to get with, even being locked out when using a not fitting user-agent. This will only stop when the responsible persons take action. And that is simple said: Us. As long as we let those companies act as they do, nothing will change. As long as we or better the majority stay silent and ignorant enough, the companies will not stop. So the only action they understand is to stop using their services and offers. To state them a clear and straight NO and STOP. So we hope people take action as otherwise the freedom of the world wide web will be no longer available and also possible. When little and independent browsers can be again possible to be used without overloaded JavaScript, we can also take another fresh air to breathe. The overloaded websites we see nowadays are beyond usable and only a waste of resources, not even near being good for anyone and also our planet.
Last but not least: We have surely other and good working webbrowsers here at Hyperbola, alike Bad Wolf and Netsurf.
